Golf: Professional Golf Lessons

June 19, 2008 – 2:05 pm

Professional golf lessons vary in their effectiveness according to your pre-lesson skill level. Most amateur golfers could benefit from golf lessons from a local course pro. The fundamentals must be mastered before advanced training can yield any sizable changes in your handicap. Most any instructor can dispense these basic golf tips.

As your skill level increases, you can benefit more greatly from intensive golf instruction. Professional instruction can reintroduce your slice as a controlled fade rather than an uncontrolled gaffe. Advanced skills like adjusting the amount of backspin you put on your approach shots are less useful if you still have trouble placing them on the green.

Professional golf lessons are usually more costly than the average lesson. If your instructor can give you personal attention, these classes are well worth their cost, however. Look for schools with highly skilled instructors that give you a video recording of your swing and your progress so you can review it after the course.

Making Your Professional Golf Lessons Worthwhile
Some people take professional golf lessons and then refuse to listen to the advice of the instructor. This makes no sense. Be open to criticism of your technique. Bad habits are familiar and comfortable and many people are loath to give them up. After your lessons, you must continue to practice what you learned or your old bad habits will creep right back in.
